Capstone Institute operates from the philosophy of Talent Development. In contrast to a schooling scheme which seeks to sort students based on supposed ability or other attributes, Talent Development holds that all children can learn in demanding settings with high academic expectations. Four Talent Development principles guide our execution of this philosophy. These are:
| |
Build on assets that students and education stakeholders bring into the various schooling settings, or create assets for them. This principle is a hallmark of what we call Integrity-Based!" classroom practices; |
| |
| |
Provide multiple pathways to success (i.e., various programs and activities) in the same educational settings, to reduce the possibility that students will fall through the cracks of failure; |
| |
| |
Focus on "educating the whole child" so that, along with test scores and other cognitive achievements, enhancement is sought in terms of social and emotional development, academic attitudes, and connecting learning to personal, family, and community well-being; |
| |
| |
Implement co-constructive educational interventions between Capstone Institute and a given school site or district to ensure that practices, procedures, and programs are shaped to the unique circumstances and personnel needs of the particular educational setting. |
